With a 9-2 victory over the Medford Maddogs, the Black Sox began the 2009 season the same way they finished up the 2008 season. The Sox would take an early 2-0 lead, only to have Medford tie the game at two with single runs in the top of the second and fourth. The Sox would then respond with seven unanswered runs scoring two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Jared Rooney started and threw six solid innings to earn the win. Rooney would yield only one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out six. Dylan Penbre would finish off the game with a solid seventh.

Tim Varakis and Bill Reichmann led the Sox ten hit attack. An attack that also featured six stolen bases. Varakis went 3-4 with a clutch fourth inning double that drove in two and put the Sox ahead for good. Reichmann went 2-2 reaching base four times. He would score two runs and drive in one.

The Sox next game is Monday May 11, against the defending champion West Roxbury Bluefish. Last year, the Sox split their two game series with the Bluefish. The Sox lost 4-3 at Rogers on May 20, while winning 7-2 on June 30 at Ronan Park.
